Why Your Prize Reveals Are Killing Repeat Entries

Published 24 June 2026 · 6 min read

Ask any competition operator what drives their revenue and they'll say the same thing: repeat entries. The first sale is hard; the tenth is where the business lives. So it's strange how many instant-win sites pour budget into traffic and prizes, then completely neglect the one moment that decides whether a customer comes back — the reveal.

The reveal is your peak moment — and you're flattening it

Behavioural psychologists talk about the "peak–end rule": people judge an experience largely by its most intense point and its ending. In an instant-win competition, both of those are the reveal. It's the dopamine hit your customer paid for.

Now look at what most sites actually show at that peak moment:

Your tickets: #18, #27

A line of text. No build-up, no anticipation, no moment. The customer scans it, sees "no win," and closes the tab. You just spent your single best opportunity to create a memory — and used it on a spreadsheet row.

And the email often spoils it first

It gets worse. WooCommerce fires a confirmation email the instant the order completes, and that email frequently contains the result. So before the customer has even looked at the page, their inbox has told them they lost. There's nothing left to reveal. (We wrote a whole piece on stopping spoiler emails.)

What "good" looks like

Compare that to a reveal with a tiny bit of theatre: a scratch card the customer swipes, a wheel that slows and clicks toward the result, a slot machine that spins. Even a losing ticket feels like playing rather than being told. The customer leans in. They finish the order with a smile instead of a shrug. And crucially, they associate your brand with a feeling — which is exactly what brings them back.

An interactive spin-the-wheel prize reveal

Three things great reveals do

  • Build anticipation. A short delay before the result is a feature, not a bug. Tension is what makes the payoff satisfying.
  • Protect the surprise. No spoilers — not on the page, not in the inbox.
  • Reward replay. Multi-ticket orders should feel like a run of plays, not a wall of results.

The fix is smaller than you think

You don't need to rebuild your store. CompKit Game Engine sits on top of Giveaway for WooCommerce and swaps the static result for an interactive reveal — using your existing ticket numbers as plays. The free Instant Reveal module already adds animated reveals and holds the confirmation email until the customer has played. Premium games (scratch, spin, slots, claw, darts, football, racing, balloon pop) let you match the reveal to your brand.

It's a small change to the smallest part of your funnel — and it lands on the exact moment that decides whether someone enters again.

Measure it

If you want proof, watch two numbers after switching on interactive reveals: time on the order-confirmation page and repeat-entry rate within 30 days. The reveal is cheap to improve and sits at the highest-leverage point in the journey. Few changes you can make will move retention as efficiently.
